Harlem Renaissance

Innovation:  a new method, idea, product, etc.

The Harlem Renaissance was the birthplace of cultural innovations and representation for African Americans, from 1920 to 1930.

 


Through this site, I will try to cover all of the aspects of the Harlem Renaissance to the best of my ability from Arts to politics. If I left anything out I am counting on you to fill me in. Harlem Renaissance was an African American culture maturation that took place in Harlem, New York City. The Renaissance evolved around arts and politic. It was the moment that African American had to make gold out sand, water out of tears. Though, the had less they had to live and enjoy every second of their life and creativity had made it possible. From that era, the African American had exposed the world to some of the most brilliant mind, and some of the most re-known culture, that are leading the world now. Jazz, poetry, Art, Blues, took birth on the porch of the Harlem Renaissance.

The Harlem renaissance lasted about a decade from 1910 to 1920, to some, this period is considered to be a golden age in African American culture or should I say the most lit.
The northern part Harlem was originally the place where white people resided in the 1800’s but due to the rapid development of the country some of the people moved away and the community of Harlem has started grown ghost of people. The owner of the buildings needed people to refill the empty buildings that’s when in 1900’s some middle-class African American moved to Harlem. These African American were known as Black Bohemia and other black families followed. Though, the white people or the European descent fought hard to kept the African American out of Harlem. Their effort was unnoticeable eventually more African American move to Harlem which later name become to known as the Great Migration. By 1920, some 300,000 African Americans from the South had moved north, and Harlem was one of the most popular destinations for these families.
